The major domestic Asian action today focused almost entirely on the Philippines where there were two notable cards.
The most notable of the two shows in the Philippines was held at the Alabang 400 Village Multipurpose Gymnasium and featured 9 bouts including a trio of title bouts.
In the 6-non title bouts there were wins for Eric Pansa (2-1-1) who dropped Marlon Arcilla (2-1) en route to taking a decision; Fighting Heno (1-0-3) defeated Julius Bala (2-2) in a knock-down filled 4 rounder; Eranio Semillano (7-5, 3) took a clear decision over Bryan Vicera (11-7-3, 5); Mike Espanosa (12-6, 7) defeated the previously unbeaten Renren Pasignahin (5-1-1, 1); Virgil Puton (11-3, 4) out pointed Daniel Ferreras (12-7-2, 4) and Jaymart Toyco (13-4, 9) stopped Michael Rodriguez (13-37-1, 3).
In the least notable of the 3 title fights Angelito Merin (7-2-2, 1) successfully claimed the WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Flyweight bout. Merin scored a shock lop-sided victory over Rene Dacquel (10-2, 3) who had been on a solid 9 fight winning streak including a stoppage over Yuki Nasu just a few months ago.
In a battle for the interim PABA Minimumweight title Ronelle Ferreras (13-5-2, 5) defeated Jerson Luzarito (7-4-3, 3) in a hard fought bout. A knockdown in round 12 effectively separated the two men on one card with another card having it almost as close.
The final title bout saw former world title challenger Ardin Diale (22-8-3, 9) successfully retain his Philippines Games & Amusement Board (GAB) Flyweight title thanks to a stoppage victory over Jeffrey Cerna (14-8, 5). This was the the fourth defense by Diale who may well be looking to move up a class and an OPBF title fight may not be far out of his reach.
The second Filipino card came at the Mandaluyong Gym and saw a debut victory for Philip Luis Cuerdo (1-0, 1) who stopped Roderick Naduma (0-3) in the 3rd round. Following Cuerdo's victory, JC Francisco (4-6-1) out pointed Dexter Dimaculangan (3-3-3, 1) via a majority decision in the sole 6 round contest of the bout.
In the 2 scheduled 8 rounders we saw the hard hitting Richard Claveras (4-0-2, 4) stopping Jesame Dela Cerna (4-2-3, 1) inside a minute and Argie Toquero (5-3-1, 4) stopping Jimmy Aducal (6-3-2, 5) in 3 minutes in a bit of a shoot out.
The main event saw Rene Bestudio (16-5-4, 5) taking a very hard fought points victory over Jonel Alibio (16-17-4, 8) in a 10 round affair.
In the UK Asian fighters had mixed success. Russian Middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (10-0-2, 70 was successful as he out pointed the tough Max Maxwell (16-26-3, 3) in a less than exciting contest whilst Kazakhstan born Heavyweight Edmund Gerber (23-2, 14) was stopped by Dereck Chisora (18-4, 12) in a genuinely one-sided contest.
Things weren't any better in Australia as Thai trio Komgrit Nanakorn (17-20, 7), Dechapon Suwunnalird (5-25, 1) and Dennapa Bigshotcamp (12-28, 4) were all stopped. Komgrit was taken out by Balazs Varga (9-4, 8), Dechapon was stopped by Nathan Carroll (9-1-1, 4) whilst Dennapa was stopped by Nathan Carroll (6-0, 5).
In Ukraine, Russian Heavyweight hopeful Vladimir Tereshkin (17-0-1, 8) scored an early victory taking out Hungarian veteran Laszlo Toth (19-10, 13).
