Chinese Heavyweight hopeful Zhang Junlong (14-0, 14) [张君龙] continued his perfect record over the weekend as he scored his third win of the year and forced a 2nd round TKO win against Brazilian veteran Julio Cesar Dos Santos (30-7, 27).
The bout was Junglong's first defense of the WBA Oceania Heavyweight title, a title that he won earlier this year when he defeated Dos Santos's countryman George Arias, also a 2nd round TKO.
Although Dos Santos is 38 the win does lay down a statement of sorts, with the loss being the quickest of the Brazilian's career, and was in fact just his third stoppage defeat following a 4th round TKO to Dmitry Kudryashov earlier this year and a 5th round TKO to current WBC Cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew. It will also help secure Junlong's WBA world ranking and could well increase it, with the WBA currently struggling to get some consistency in their world rankings anyway.
Although still some way from a world title bout Junlong is racking up wins against notable opposition and we wouldn't be shocked to see the Chinese puncher out at least twice more before the year is over as he looks to build towards a major Heavyweight title bout in the next 12-18 months.
