Tomorrow in Osaka fight fans will get the chance to see IBF Super Bantamweight champion Yukinori Oguni (19-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] take on Ryosuke Iwasa (23-2, 15) [岩佐 亮佑]. The bout will be Oguni's first defense of his title, whilst the talented Iwasa will be hoping to become a world champion in his second shot at a major world honour. It's an interesting match up, and one which really doesn't have a clear favourite on paper.
Although the match up looks great on paper the bookies do actually have Oguni as the very clear betting favourite. In fact the champion is priced at 2/7 to win the bout, and retain his title. Whilst we do understand Oguni being the favourite, we do admit we expected the odds to be much better on the champion, who seemed to suggest in the build up that he was actually the under-dog.
The challenger has been priced at 5/2 across a number of bookies, giving a really attractive return on the challenger, who is perhaps being over-looked due to his memorable loss on British soil to Lee Haskins, in what will be the only bout many British gamblers have actually seen of "Eagle Eye".
Interestingly Japanese fan site Boxmob have got the bout near 50-50, with fans voting 52% in favour of Oguni and 47% in favour of Iwasa, with 1% going with the draw. Talking about the draw, that has actually been priced at 25/1.
