Yesterday we saw a major upset to end 2016, as Japanese fighter Yukinori Oguni (19-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] claimed the IBF Super Bantamweight title, out boxing the monstrously heavy handed Jonathan Guzman (22-1-0-1, 22), and actually dropping Guzman on route to that win.
Today Oguni took part in a press conference to talk about his win and the future.
At the press conference the new champion wore some over-zied glasses to hide the swelling around both eyes, and continued what has been a relatively interesting few weeks for his clothing, which has also seen him dress like an anime character and Santa. Oguni explained that the glasses were ordered a month ago with the fighter expecting to be more swollen than he is.
Away from the eyewear the champion seemed to suggest he isn't yet feeling like the champion just yet, and the win hasn't yet sank in. He also admitted that both hands are in pain and that he will be out of the ring until they recover, with the fighter himself staying away from the Kadoebi Houseki gym for a while.
Although a date hasn't yet been set we do know that Oguni's first defense will be a mandatory title defense against compatriot Ryosuke Iwasa (22-2, 14) [岩佐 亮佑], a good friend of Oguni's.
