Back in April fans in Osaka saw a compelling OPBF Bantamweight title bout between Yu Kawaguchi (23-6, 10) and Takahiro Yamamoto (15-4, 12). The bout was close thorough out and although Kawaguchi won, claiming the previously vacant title, there were plenty of fans feeling that the bout should have gone the other way.
It's now been announced that we'll get to see the two men do it again on August 2nd in an immediate rematch between the two Japanese fighters. The bout will be Kawaguchi's first defense of the title whilst Yamamoto will be hoping to avenge his most recent defeat.
The bout is a great one on paper, as it was when they first met, though comes with an interesting array of talented fighters on the under-card.
Those under-card fighters include the very talented Kazuki Tanaka (2-0, 2), who looks to claim a notable win against a yet to be named foe, and Genki Maeda (1-0, 1) who is also facing a yet to be named foe. Both of these men are expected to be taking steps up in class as they look to quickly climb through the ranks. From what we know of Tanaka he is looking to fight for a title of some kind in the near future, and may well have eyes on facing Yamamoto if the Ioka gym fighter wins in the main event here.
The card is set to be held at the Prefectural Gymnasium in Osaka, a venue previously known as the bodymaker Colosseum.
