Earlier today fight fans at the Kokura Kita Gym in Kitakyushu saw Yoshihiko Matsuo (18-8-6, 3) [松尾 佳彦] in the ring for the final time, as he took part in his retirement ceremony.
The popular local took part in a short spar before addressing the fans with a deep and touching speech, not only thanking the fans for their support during his career but also how he was inspired by the death of his father and he spoke in depth about how he was driven to fight.
He seemed to apologise for not becoming a champion but it's fair to say that he did have a solid and memorable career which has left a lasting effect in the region.
The former fighter will now resume his education, and is set to begin studying at the Kyushu Medical Sports College and we'd like to wish him all the best in his studies and his time away from the ring.
