Last week saw reports that OPBF Super Featherweight champion Carlo Magali (23-9-3, 12) had secured himself an unlikely shot at WBC Super Featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt (32-1, 28), with the bout arranged for February. Sadly the GAB later forced Magali out of the bout, refusing to allow him to return to the ring so soon after his January 13th win over MAsatoshi Kotani.
Whilst Magali clearly had every reason to be annoyed at missing out on a world title fight it appears he and his team have no intention of sitting and waiting on the side lines.
According to Korean sources Magali and his team have agreed to travel to Korea in April, for Magali to make his second defense of the OPBF title.
The reports from several Korean sources are that Magali will be facing off with the unbeaten Yoon Sung Kim (10-0-1, 8) [김윤성], if Kim can come througfh his February 11th bout with Tae Won Jung (3-0, 1).
The bout, which we understand will be promoted by Won Promotion, is likely to be confirmed later in the year and would be the first OPBF title fight in Korea since Min Wook Kim defended the OPBF Light Welterweight title against Valentine Hosokawa back in August 2013.
Although the bout is a huge step down from a potential contest with Berchelt it would give Magalia chance to pick up more valuable experience and attempt to move up the world rankings, towards a shot on merit, rather than as a late replacement, which he was set to be following issues with Cristian Mijares, who had seemingly failed to agree terms with Berchelt.
