Today Yamanaka took part in an event with a local Mayor, and was awarded a special award as recognition for his win over Fukuhara.
At the event Yamanaka had the chance to talk about the bout, admitting that it wasn't the most satisfying of contests, he thanked the local support that has helped through his career and, most interestingly, spoke about the future.
Rather than looking to rely on is big win over Fukuhara the champion stated that he is looking to secure big wins and is actually hunting a unification bout, in an attempt to prove that he's the best in the division.
At the moment it's unclear which champion he would be chasing, though a contest with WBA Minmumweight champion Knockout CP Freshmart (16-0, 7) [น็อคเอาท์ ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] would be the easiest to make, given that WBC champion Wanheng Menayothin (48-0, 17) [วันเฮง ไก่ย่างห้าดาวยิม] and IBF champion Hiroto Kyoguchi (8-0, 6) [京口 紘人] both have mandatory title fights due in the near future. A bout between Yamanaka and Knockout would be fun to watch, and could well be made before the end of 2017.
