Earlier today the Japanese press reported that WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka (25-0-2, 17) [山中慎介] had began sparring ahead of his September 16th bout with mandatory challenger Anselmo Moreno (36-4-1, 12).
The champion, who incidentally sparred with current WBO champion Marlon Tapales ahead of his first bout with Moreno, is sparring with Filipino pair Michael Dasmarinas (24-2, 16) and Glenn Suminguit (18-2, 9).
Whilst neither fighter quite represents the challenge of "Chemito" both will serve as a better likeness that Tapales, who doesn't fight anything like the Panamanian despite being wold class himself.
Today Yamanaka sparred 2 rounds with each of the Filipino's and whilst he wasn't looking brilliant he did say he was happy as it was his first session of sparring for the bout, and seemed to suggest that things would get better when he got into the swing of things.
