It's unclear what their aim is, though it looks like they are focusing on Thailand for now, though their was a notable member of the Indonesian boxing family at the event, more about him a little later.
One of the many interesting things of the launch was the fact their belts, which are incredibly...well gold, had "PABA" written on them and it seems like they WBS has taken over the governing of the WBA who now seem to be focused more on breaking into the Chinese market, as seen by a number of recent WBA sponsored Chinese shows. It's not 100% clear but it could well be that the WBA have cut ties with the PABA and the WBS have picked up the the title to be part of their new movemebt
There is also talk that those involved in the PABA were "power hungry" and that this offshoot of the PABA is to try and bring back the real meaning of the PABA titles, which in recent years have been defended against some very weak challengers as a fighter wins the belt and begins a move through the WBA rankings. If that's the case then this seeming break away from the WBA may negatively affect the way Thai fighters in particular are looked at by the WBA.
One things clear, the politics of boxing has got another 3-initial organisation, more political wrangling and another line up of old men thinking they know what's best for the sport. They may very well turn the WBS into something amazing, but for now they merely look like more people confusing an already frustrating boxing scene, and patting themselves on the back before anything has really changed.
