Earlier in Tokyo saw the weigh in for the December 31st show set to take place in the Ota City Gym. Among those who were weighed were WBA Super Flyweight champion Kohei Kono (30-8, 13) and his Dominican opponent Noberto Jimenez (20-8-3, 10).
At the weigh in both men made weight and both looked ripped with very visible abs though from what we under-stand Jimenez did appear to have more issue with the weight than the champion, who looked confident but calm. Jimenez, as he has done through out, looked arrogant and cocky, as if he's turned up with the win in the bag. In fact so cocky was Jimenez that he bag to eat an apple whilst the press were trying to get photos of the fighters together.
As for the weights Kono was spot on the limit at 115lbs , very much his usual weight and the same as what he was when he won the title with a stoppage victory over Denkaosan Kaovichit earlier this year. As For Jimenez he was 114½lbs, the second lowest weight of his career.
With the confidence both have displayed here we suspect we may have a fantastic fight on our hands, though it could well be a lot of bravado from Jimenez who is stepping up in class massively from the fighters he has been fighting on the Dominican domestic scene. It could well be that the challenger has no idea what he is in for here.
