Earlier today the WBA announced they had cancelled the purse bids for the Super Flyweight title fight between current champion Kohei Kono (30-8, 13) and WBA #2 ranked Koki Kameda (32-1, 17).
The purse bids, which were set to take place later today, were a subject of great controversy with the JBC threatening to reassess their views on the WBA, effectively threatening to prevent WBA title fights in Japan. If that had happened the WBA would have felt a loss of income with the WBA hosting numerous WBA world title fights.
It appears however that the JBC have lessened their position with the WBA announcing that the teams from the Kameda camp and the Kono camp, Watanabe gym, had decided to negotiate.
We're awaiting on an announce stating when and where the fight will take place though our suspicion is that it will take place outside of Japan, for example the Philippines or Macau possibly as early as late October. It may seem like a quick turn around though both men have been in training for months.
