The scramble to find an acceptable opponent at short notice saw Galaxy boxing heading towards Tatsuya Fukuhara (14-4-5, 5) as the potential replacement. Fukuhara, for whatever reason, isn't the man they've ended up with and, thankfully, we've ended up with a better bout.
Instead of Fukuhara, who was beaten by a debuting Takuma Inoue in 2013, we'll instead see Wanheng in with Filipino Jerry Tomogdan (17-5-2, 9).
Fans maybe asking who? But Tomogdan is the current Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) Minimumweight champion and is a talented 21 year old southpaw who has mixed in good company. Among those he has faced Joebert Alvarez (LKO6) and Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep (LTD5). It is worth noting however that he is 6-0 (2) streak at the moment with wins over Joey Canoy and Rodel Tejares.
Whilst we won't pretend Tomogdan is one of the top contenders in the division he's not a terrible opponent at around 3 weeks notice. We don't think he's a true "world class challenger" though he's meant to be a stay busy fight before a mandatory, possibly against Denver Cuello later in the year. Interestingly the WBC rank Tomogdan at #25 in their latest rankings, released just a few days ago, and boxrec.com rank him at #22 in the division.
We would like to thank our good friend Ian Bautista Melodillar for the information on this story, he first past us the story before our good friends at thairec.com confirmed the story. Also we would like to thank Thairec.com and dedi aditiya for the video below of Toogdan's fight against Boy Tanto in Indonesia.
