One of the most anticipated bouts to end 2016 is the rematch between WBA Super Featherweight "super" champion Jezreel Corrales (20-1-0-1, 8) and Japan's Takashi Uchiyama (24-1-1, 20) [内山 高志], who face off for the second time this year. In their first bout Corrales did a number on Uchiyama, stopping the long reigning champion in the second record, and will be looking to prove himself again here, which Uchiyama will look to prove it was a fluke.
Today the two men took part in their medical and unsurprisingly things were much the same as they were in the first bout between the two men with Uchiyama having the size advantages in terms of height and reach. Despite having those in the first fight he didn't actually look bigger than Corrales, who's reach seemed longer in the ring than Uchiyama's.
For Uchiyama, now 37, the key to victory isn't going to be about size but instead about neutralising the speed of Corrales, but given his age that will be a really tricky thing to do.
Despite this being his first defense Corrales seemed incredibly relaxed and was seen playfully flirting with Sumi Reina, the female broadcaster for TV Tokyo and he seemed to suggest that he had fallen in love at first site, not good news for Corrales' wife!
