It's fair to say that that Olympic medal winner Tugstsogt Nyambayar (7-0, 7) [Н.Төгсцогт] has the potential to be the most successful Mongolian boxer of all time, and has the skills to be a multi-weight world champion in the years to come. Although highly touted, and a Silver medal winner in both the World Amateur Championships and Olympics, he hasn't yet scored a break out win to really make a statement in the professional ranks. He has looked great in his professional contests, but hasn't yet made the boxing world really sit up and take notice.
That could all change on March 12th with the Mongolian now reportedly set to take a huge step up in class and take on American based Dominican Yenifel Vicente (30-3-2-1, 22) in a bout set to be televised on Fox Sports in the US, according to various Mongolian sources.
Since turning professional in 2015 Nyambayar has left destruction in his wake, stopping his 7 opponents in a combined 17 rounds. Whilst those opponents, so far, haven't been the best they have featured genuine tough guys like Juan Ruiz and German Merez, who lasted 4 and 5 rounds respectively, and have seen he Mongolian show that he is a genuinely brutal puncher. Of course as well as being a puncher he is also a very highly skilled fighter, as his amateur credentials suggest, and he's long been tipped to be a future world champion in the years to come.
With 36 professional fights to his name Vicente is a veteran and he debuted back in 2006. During the course of his career he has won various regional titles at Super Bantamweight and has mixed on the fringes of world level. His 3 career losses have been to Chris Avalos, Juan Antonio Rodriguez and Eric Hunter, which all came by decision during a 2 year spell, and he is currently riding a 5 fight stoppage run, includuing a truly brutal KO against the then 19-0 Juan Dominguez in 2015. He won't be coming in to this bout to make up the numbers and will instead serve as a real test for Nyambayar.
At the moment there has been no news of this bout released in the west from PBC but as mentioned numerous Mongolian sources are reporting this is a done deal. Interestingly however none of the sources managed to suggest whee the bout would be held.
