Earlier this year we reported that veteran Kenji Yonekura [米倉 健司] was set to close the Yonekura gym, due to failing health and old age. It was clear that when he announced that the fighters signed to the gym were going to begin looking elsewhere, though there is yet to be an exodus with the fighters showing real loyalty to their popular mentor.
The most notable name at the Yonekura gym, Tsuyoshi Tameda (13-3-2, 11) [溜田 剛士], was always going to be the man that the promoters were going to be chasing from the gym, with the youngster being exciting and heavy handed. The chase for Tameda is however over, with the promising youngster now slated to become an Ohashi gym fighter.
Tameda will fight his next bout, on August 22nd against Retsu Kosaka (8-2, 3) [小坂烈] as part of the Japanese youth tournament, and after that he will join the Ohashi gym.
The move to Ohashi isn't a huge shock, given that Mr Ohashi himself was guided in his career by Mr Yonekura, and it would seem like a move that suits all parties and adds yet another talented youngster to the ever growing stable under the guidance of Ohashi.
