Earlier today Japanse fight fans at the Korakuen Hall saw a WBO Asia Pacific Female Light Flyweight title fight.
The bout in question saw former world champion Tenkai Tsunami (24-12, 13) [天海 ツナミ] battle against Filipino visitor Carleans Rivas (6-5-3) and turned out to be the mismatch many had expected when they looked at the bout originally.
From the opening moments Tsunami brought the pressure and it was clear that Rivas was hugely uncomfortably with the aggression of the local favourite. Rivas did her best to fight back, but the opening round made it clear that Tsunami was wanting to see off the visitor and have an early night.
The pressure continued from Tsunami in round 2 and this time Rivas was unable to see off the storm, breaking down and needing the referee to save in the corner, as Tsunami really went to town on the visitor.
With the win Tsunami now holds the regional title and also sets herself up for a WBO title fight, facing the winner of the upcoming WBO female Light Flyweight title bout between Japanese sensation Naoko Fujioka (16-2, 7) [藤岡 奈穂子] and the unbeaten Yokasta Valle (13-0, 6).
