Earlier this week people saw model-come-boxer Tomomi Takano (5-1, 4) suffer her first professional defeat as she was stopped by the unheralded Kai Johnson (5-5-3, 2). There was some talk about that loss being the end of Tomomi's professional career, after all who would willing be punched in the face when they could make just as much money from modelling?
Thankfully the always entertaining Tomomi has ended any worries about that by stating, unequivocally, that she will be taking the loss as a learning experience and continuing to compete in the sport. Something that we are very glad to hear.
Whilst we know some think that Tomomi only gets the attention she gets due to her looks it needs accepting that she manages to draw a lot of cross over attention to boxing and that alone is a good thing. The more attention the sport gets the better and with Tomomi making headlines on a number of the Japanese sports papers she is effectively a great advert for the boxing world.
With her promise to continue with boxing we'd expect her to continue to make headlines and a proposed fight with Riyako Goshi would certainly get a lot of inches even if the fight it's self wouldn't be anything great. The weigh in for this prospective bout would be sensational and likely a lot more entertaining than the actual fight.
