Earlier today we received news about two retirements from Japan.
One of those retirements was that Naoki Matsumoto (9-8-2, 2) The 27 year old Light Flyweight retires following back-to-back losses to Yuma Iwahashi and Kenichi Horikawa which have effectively pushed him away from a national title fight, despite still being ranked.
The other retirement was that of Tomoki Kawanishi (9-2, 4) the former OPBF female Super Flyweight champion who was last seen in the ring back in July when she dropped a clear decision to the sensational Naoko Fujioka in a WBA world title fight. Aged 27 it's a shame to see Kawanishi hanging up the gloves considering the promise she has shown in her short career. She may have come up short Fujioka but she showed the ability to go a long way with her sharp jab and freakish height.
We hope that both of these fighters find success in future endeavors and would love for them to reconsider boxing in a year's time when they've perhaps had a break from the ring and the life of a boxer.
