The second session of yesterday's Olympic boxing was an interesting one with a genuine upset, some notably unusual commentary on the UK's feed, via BBC, and some great fights.
One of the real upsets saw Azeri fighter Kamran Shakhsuvarly defeat Russian fighter Artem Chebotarev, who had been a star in the APB. Chebotarev unfortunately showed little desire against the Azeri and essentially gave away the bout, though some how one judge felt he had won. Shakhsuvarly will be joined in the next round by Indian Vikas Krishan, who lived up to expectation by over-come Turkey's Onder Sipal and Uzbek Bektemir Melikuziyev, who defeated the popular Daniel Lewis of Australia. These winners here, at 75KG's, progressed along with Mexican Misael Rodriguez, who had a walk over against Michael O'Reilly, who the BBC described as being “unable to make himself available” following a failed pre-games drugs test. Thanks BBC for one of the best laughs of the games!
In the 60KG we saw the semi-final line up being sorted. We saw Mongolian Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai advance to the next round with a unanimous decision win against Algerian Reda Benbaziz whilst Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha claimed a major win over Azeri Albert Selimov, who was one of the more touted fighters in the division.
