Earlier today Japanese fight fans in Osaka saw 19 year old prospect Futa Akizuki (10-0, 8) [秋月 楓大] score his biggest win to date, as he scored a 7th round stoppage against Japanese veteran Shun Ishibashi (10-22-1, 4) [橋口俊].
The exciting Akizuki, who began his career in Thailand as a 16 year old, began the bout boxing well behind his jab and controlling the distance with relative ease. He built of that early success and used his speed to roll off combinations and although he took an occassional counter he always looked in control and amazingly comfortable.
In round 7 Akizuki dropped Ishibashi and the veteran was stopped whilst down with Akizuki really impressing in a very mature performance.
The youngster is now set to return to the ring in November as he takes his next step towards a title fight, and it's clear that his team will be pushing for him to fight some sort of belt in 2018. For Ishibashi however the future is bleak, with this being his 6th straight loss, and his third by stoppage during that run. It's clear he's not the fighter he once was and the accumulation of recent punishment really is taking it's toll.
