In October we reported that Yuki Beppu (14-0, 14) [別府 優樹] would be taking a massive step up in class for his next bout as he goes up against former OPBF and JBC unified champion Charles Bellamy (26-3-1, 17) on January 13th at the Korakuen Hall. It's now boon announced that we will have another really interesting bout on the same card, featuring a former Japanese title challenger taking on the #1 ranked Japanese Bantamweight.
The bout in question will see the exciting, and teak tough, Tatsuya Takahashi (25-6-4, 18) [高橋 竜也] battle against top ranked domestic contender Yuta Saito (10-7-2, 7) [齊藤 裕太] in what is expected to be a thrilling bout.
The exciting Takahashi came to our attention back in December 2014 when he put on a sterling effort in a loss to Kentaro Masuda, with Masuda describing him as being like a Zombie. Since then Takahashi has gone 7-0-1 (5), with notable wins against Kenta Toi and Tonko Nakagawa, as well as an unexpected draw against Achiwa. In the ring he's tough, aggressive and comes on strong in the later rounds. He's shown a real interest in chasing another title bout and will likely see a win over Saito as his chance to get such a bout in the near future.
On paper Saito's record might not look impressive, but his heavy hands are devastating and he has rarely been beaten clearly, with only Yuta Nakagawa really taking a decisive win over him. His ranking is over-inflated but he is a handful, as fighters like Yushi Tanaka, Jo Tanooka and Shuji Hamada have found out. He's never been stopped and with his heavy hands is a threat through out a fight, meaning that Takahashi will need to be very wary of Saito through out the 8 round fight.
At the moment other bouts for the card haven't been announce but we'd expect them to be announce during the next few weeks.
