This weekend we've seen a number of prospects step up, with mixed success. In the UK we saw the much touted Luke Campbell lose his unbeaten record to the unheralded Yvan Mendy, whilst on the very same show Anthony Joshua got given a stern test by Dillian Whyte. On unbeaten youngster who managed his step up with ease was Japan's 20 year old Super Featherweight hopeful Takuya Uehara (8-0, 5), who scored a brilliant stoppage over the more experienced Hiroki Yoshimura (7-13, 4).
The bout was a big step up for the youngster, but a brilliant left hand in the second round dropped Yoshimura hard, and he failed to recover in time.
Following the bout Uehara did speak about focusing on rankings in 2016. Given his finish here, there is a good chance he could racing into the Japanese top 10 before the end of 2016, though he does need much more seasoning before fighting for a title, especially in the talent rich 130lb weight division.
