Earlier today former WBA Super Featherweight "super" champion Takashi Uchiyama (24-1-1, 20) [内山 高志] had a chance to talk to the media, as they attended a small press conference at the Watanabe gym.
At the press conference Uchiyama announced that he was going to be returning to the gym and that talks were still on going with Panama's Jezreel Corrales (20-1-0-1, 8), confirming that a deal had been agreed in principle for the bout, but not going as far as to announce the bout like Rogelio Espiño did earlier this month.
Uchiyama appeared confident and determined to regain the title that he lost to Corrales, and his team seemed to suggest that his preparation wasn't as good as we had been lead to believe at the time, though others have suggested that the preparation was fine but they had over-looked Corrales.
The team at Watanabe also stated that the plan was, as we had all expected, to have a double world title show at the end of the year. One of those bouts will likely be the Uchiyama/Corrales rematch whilst the other will see WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (25-2-1, 11) [田口良一] defending his title.
