Earlier today saw Nike holding a special event which featured 3 unbeaten Japanese boxing stars. Two of those 3 fighters were unbeaten champions with one of them being WBA Super Featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (22-0-1, 18) and the other being WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka (22-0-2, 16). Both of these men spoke about what they wanted to achieve in the next year.
Uchiyama, who fought just once last year, said that he is hoping to fight 3 times this year and that he is hoping one of those fights will be a unification bout. From what we've already been told by Uchiyama and his camp we're expecting him back in the ring in May with the unification bout, against WBC champion Takashi Miura, to come later in the year.
Although Uchiyama is wanting to unify the key to his year is 3 high level match ups to make up for a very disappointing 2014.
As for Yamanaka he too wants to unify his title with that of another champion though unlike Uchiyama there is no clear unification bout to be made for him as of yet. What was interesting however was that he will be returning in April against a yet to be named opponent.
Yamanaka may not yet know who he is fighting but has promised one thing, that he will go for the KO.
The third man at the event was Ryota Murata (6-0, 4) and we've gone into detail about what he said here.
