Tomorrow Japanese fans get their first show at the Korakuen Hall of the year. Whilst it's not a huge show it is an interesting one with two bouts of note. One of those will see former Japanese Bantamweight title challenger Tatsuya Takahashi (25-6-4, 18) [高橋 竜也] battle against highly ranked domestic contender Yuta Saito (10-7-2, 7) [齊藤 裕太] in what is viewed as a de facto final eliminator for a shot at the Japanese Bantamweight title.
The bout, an 8 rounder, has been contracted at just over 120lbs and both men made that limit with out too many issues.
The shorter man, Saito, was the slightly lighter man on the scales coming in at just under 119¾lbs. He spoke about his newly born child at the weigh in and seemed determined to earn his first title fight this year.
Takahashi, who is best known for his hellacious war with Kentaro Masuda, was just under 120lbs and seemed to show how focused he was on boxing whilst stating that this would be the year that he becomes a champion.
From what we under-stand the winner will face the winner of a bout between Ryo Akaho (29-2-2, 19) [赤穂 亮] and Yushi Tanaka (19-1-3, 13) [田中 裕士], who are expected to fight for the vacant title later this year.
