On Sunday fight fans have an attractive triple header to tune in to thanks to TBS. Arguably the best of the match ups is a Light Flyweight unification bout, as WBA champion Ryoichi Taguchi (26-2-2, 12) [田口良一] and IBF champion Milan Melindo (37-2, 13) meet in a very good looking bout to end 2017.
Today the two men under-went their physical examinations and both men passed the series of tests with no issues. What was more interesting were the measurements of the two men, which showed the huge size difference between the two fighters, and just what sort of physical advantages Taguchi had at hand.
Firstly he is, as we say every time he fights, a reakishly tall Light Flyweight and is 10.1cm taller than Melindo, a significant height advantage. That is coupled with a 5cm reach advantage, giving Taguchi the upper hand if he attempts to keep the bout at range. Taguchi is however known for fighting on the inside, and will likely give those advantages away, at least at times. Taguchi also has the advantage in terms of world title fight experience.
Interestingly Melindo seemed very confident, and even playful, through out and was a markedly different man to the one who had looked like a brooding and angry man in the phsyical for the fight against Akira Yaegashi back in May. In fact looked like the title had brought our a new lighter, happier side to Melindo, which was charming to see with him and Taguchi sharing smiles and respect.
