The best looking bout this weekend will see WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (26-2-2, 12) [田口良一] take on his IBF counter part Milan Melindo (37-2, 13) in a very good looking unification bout between two very talented and under-rated fighters in oneof the sports most over-looked divisions.
Interestingly the bout has been priced up for British gamblers, with one notable bookmaker taking bets on the contest, albeit only on two markets.
One of those market's is the "To Win" market, where the bookies have made Taguchi a clear favourite, pricing him at 8/15 to win whilst Melindo is 11/8, in a bout that many fans in the west are seeing as a pretty close bout on paper, given Melindo's fantastic 2017.
The other market is the "Total Rounds" market, which has been set at 9.5 rounds. The over here is 1/3 whilst the under is priced at 9/4, an interesting market in some ways, but one suggesting that a stoppage isn't expected.
Interestingly the brilliant Japanese site Boxmob.jp, from where the picture we're using has been taken, have a landslide outcome in their poll. Their poll on the bout shows Taguchi getting 84 % of the vote, with 37% overall going by a Taguchi stoppage and 47% going with Taguchi by Decision. The 15% who have voted for Melindo have gone 11% for the Filipino to get the stoppage and 4% for a Melindo decision. Whilst there is clearly some bias in those figures we did think they were worth sharing.
