With a potential world title unification bout on his mind WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (25-2-2, 11) [田口良一] can't take his focus off his upcoming fight, which takes tomorrow. That bout will see the champion defending his title against mandatory challenger Robert Barrera (18-1, 12) with the lure of a huge December bout likely being his driving force.
Although Taguchi could be accused of over-looking Barrera due to the proposed unification bout with WBO Kosei Tanaka it's clear that Taguchi has taken preparation for this weekend's bout seriously. That is part of the reason why he is a clear betting favourite, priced at 3/10 to over-come Barrera.
The challenger, who has been confident since arriving in Japan for the bout priced at an attractive 52/19 to claim a world title in his first bout in Asia, and to thwart the proposed unification bout.
For those interested, the draw is 22/1.
The "To win" market is one of two available for this bout, with the "over-under" being set at 9.5 rounds. For the over the best price is 5/18 whilst the under is available at 5/2, suggesting the bookies don't see an early stoppage here.
