One of 5 world title fights set to take place tomorrow in Japan will see WBA Light Flyweight bout which will see champion Ryoichi Taguchi (25-2-1, 11) [田口良一] defending his title against Carlos Canizales (16-0, 13). The bout, on paper, at least, looks really interesting though the reality is that Canizales is unknown, untested and unproven and will be facing a massive acid test against a man who is slowly making a name for himself as one of the top Light Flyweights on the planet.
The fact Canizales is so unproven plays a big part in the betting odds for the bout with the bookies pricing the champion as the clear favourite. In fact Taguchi such a favourite the returns on him are scarcely worth a bet With some bookies offering only 1/9 on the champion. Thankfully if you shop around you can find a price of 3/16, though we still see that as a tough ask to gamble at. If Canizales is your man for tomorrow than odds of 28/5 will be tempting and they do offer a nice return if you believe he can put on a break out performance against the taller, more experienced and much more proven Japanese world champion. Also worthy of note is the fact that the draw is available at 33/1 for those interested in that outcome.
The alternative markets for the bout are very limited with the only other option to gamble on the fight being the over-under, which has been set at 8.5 rounds. The over is available at 4/9 whilst the under is rather attractive 13/8, an intriguing price given that Canizales has only been beyond 8 completed rounds once, his 11 round decision win over Robert Barrera.
Taguchi takes on unbeaten Canizales!
