The full rumour is that Koki will announce his retirement in the next few weeks and take up the role of president at the Kameda Gym. This would mean that the gym would would be a step closer to being regranted a promotional license.
From what we under-stand Koki would have to retire as a boxer because iIn Japan, unlike in many other countries, an active fighter cannot hold a promotional license. Koki would have to decide whether he wants to be a promoter or a fighter. If he chooses to retire and go the promotional route then he will likely be able to work a deal where by Tomoki will be allowed to fight in Japan.
If the rumour ends up being just that, a rumour, and the Kameda brothers do end up transferring gyms then Koki will be allowed to fight. From what we understand however TBS are thinking of not showing Kameda fights in the future. This could be a major point as to whether or not Koki and even Daiki continue to fight. Tomoki however is likely to continue and transfer gyms with out too many problems, at least for the foreseeable future.
Regarding this story, we're going to be keeping our ear very close to the ground and wait for an official announcement, though we understand that it could be one of the biggest stories in Japanese boxing this year.
