Yesterday we reported that the WBC "interim" Flyweight bout between Stamp Kiatniwat (14-0, 6) [ขวัญไทย ศิษย์หมอเส็ง] and Dominican Gregorio Lebron (13-3, 11) wasn't to be shown on live TV earlier today following issues between the promoter of the show, Galaxy Boxing, and TV channel Channel 7. Between that report and the scheduled fight time there was a number of developments.
The most immediate development was that the bout didn't take place today.
Instead the bout has been postponed to February 9th with the hope being that Galaxy will have the money to pay Channel 7 to broadcast the bout live and to make the payments that were due to be paid ahead of today's planned broadcast.
It's unclear if there is bigger problems, with Galaxy yet to release a statement regarding the postponement, though some have suggested that Galaxy are playing one of the many games that Thai promoters have had reputations for and have perhaps not been fully honest with the Dominican and his team, who seemed happy to be in Thailand last week. The change in date could well have thrown the visitor mentally and will almost certainly have frustrated both the fighter and his team.
It does seem however that that is a little bit over the top and from what we understand when the broadcast was pulled from TV the sponsors for the bout pulled out, leaving Galaxy unable to pay the fighters. As a result they have began to renegotiate with TV, sponsors and the fighters and have pencilled in February 9th for the bout to be aired on Thai Channel 3 SD.
Sadly at the moment we've been a little bit left in the dark, though hopefully things will be made clearer later today.
