Earlier today our excellent Thai friend Pal informed us that there was now a date, and region, set for the long anticipated WBC Super Flyweight world title eliminator between hard hitting Thai Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (33-4-1, 30) and promising Mexican Jose Salgado (34-2-2, 27).
According to Pal the bout will take place on May 28th, becoming yet another addition to the great line up of fights we have through out the coming month, and will take place in Nakhon Ratchasima, though no specific venue has been set as of yet.
Srisaket, a former WBC Super Flyweight world champion, will be fighting in his first "notable" bout since losing the world title to Carlos Cuadras, in May last year. Since that bout he has racked up 6 wins with 5 stoppages, including an eye catching KO against Boido Simanjuntak, though all those bouts have come at a low level against visitors. Notably Cuadras scored his first defense against Salgado, fighting to a 3rd round technical decision with his countryman in September. Since Salgado's bout with Cuadras the Mexican has been inactive and this will be his first bout in around 8 months.
The winner of the bout between Srisaket and Salgado will become the mandatory for the world title and it's likely that will see the winner having a rematch with Cuadras later this year.
