This past weekend we saw Nicaraguan sensation Roman Gonzalez (46-0, 38) claim the WBC Super Flyweight title to become a 4-division world champion. The Nicaraguan however does now have a tricky mandatory challenger chomping at the bit to face him, Thailand's Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (41-4-1, 38) [ศรีสะเกษ นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น], himself a former champion and aggressive hard hitting fighter.
The two teams have 90 days to negotiate a bout, potentially giving us an early Christmas present or a fantastic bout to kick off 2017.
Although negotiations haven't yet started the Thai's team have made it very clear that they are happy to travel to the US to face Gonzalez and it seems they feel their man will be a handful for Gonzalez anywhere on the planet.
If the two do meet, as we hope, then we may finally see a man with the physicality to back Gonzalez up and could another FOTY style war. Both are aggressive, heavy handed fighters who come for the knockout and meet opponents head on.
Whilst the bout may not be Gonzalez Vs Naoya Inoue, a bout that seems likely to come in 2017, it'd still be a great fight and another test of Gonzalez as a Super Flyweight, giving him a chance to claim another notable scalp.
