Filipino veteran Sonny Boy Jaro (42-13-5, 30) will not compete at tomorrow's show at the Korakuen Hall following issues making weight earlier today. The former WBC Flyweight champion was unable to make the contracted for about against Japanese ranked opponent Yusuke Suzuki (6-2, 4) [鈴木 悠介].
The bout was made at a contracted 116½lbs and it was a weight Suzuki made dead on. Jaro however was nowhere near the limit weighing in at 119¼lbs.
He did attempt to lose weight in a sauna but was still unable to make weight and instead of the bout going ahead the contest was scrapped.
Sadly for Jaro this isn't the first offense of missing weight, in fact it's not even the first time he's done so in Japan. Having failed to make weight in 2011 against Hirofumi Mukai and last year against Shota Kawaguchi, in the first of two bouts between the men. As a result we're expecting the JBC to impose a lengthy ban on the Filipino who, given his age, may never fight against in Japan.
