This coming weekend fight fans in Japan will be able to see WBA Super Bantamweight champion Shun Kubo (12-0, 9) [久保隼] make his first defense of the title as he takes on mandatory challenger Daniel Roman (22-2-1, 8) in a really interesting match up where both men will be expected to answer some serious questions.
Today, ahead of that bout, Kubo took part in a public work out at the Shinsei gym.
The work out saw the champion speak to the media and reveal that he was only 2KG's, around 4.4lbs, above the Super Bantamweight limit at the moment and had done 100 rounds of sparrign to prepare for the well schooled Roman. It seems like Kubo has been working to develop his style and is looking to further define himself as a boxer, after what has been a relatively rapid ascent to a world title.
Other comments to the media saw Kubo and, and Shinsei gym chairman Masato Yamashita, speak about the recent world title win of Ryuya Yamanaka (15-2, 4) [山中 竜也], who claimed the WBO Minimumweight title on Sunday, in what was another big day for the Shinsei stable.
The work out it's self saw Kubo work the mitts and the heavy bag, and look smooth and ready to go for this weekend's fight.
