Back in November we reported that Shohjahon Ergashev (14-0, 13) [Шохжахон Эргашев] was looking to return to the ring on December 14th for a bout in Krasnodar, Russia. Today that bout was confirmed, with his opponent being announced as Ugandan puncher Badru Lusambya (26-4-2, 24), not the originally touted Edelson dos Santos Silva (17-0, 14) of Brazil.
Ergashev really came to prominence earlier this year, stopping the then 18-0 Sonny Fredrickson in January. Since then he has seen his reputation grow, and grow, adding 3 more wins since that bout, including a decision win over Chinese fighter Wang Zhimin. That growth has seen his base boom, and the hope going forward seems to be that he will move towards a world title fight sooner rather than later.
The heavy handed Lusambya is a 36 year old from Kampala, and is dubbed "Mr Crush". He#s been a professional since 2002 and has fought mostly in Uganda, though has had a number of fights outside of his homeland. These have included bouts in the UK, Kenya, Azerbaijan and Ghana. Notably he has been stopped in two of his bouts outside of Uganda, losing in 2 rounds to Englishman Craig Watson and 8 rounds to Azeri Fariz Mammadov.
