Just over a week ago the boxing world got shaken up as the WBO Flyweight world title got ripped out of the hands of Chinese boxer Zou Shiming (9-2, 2) [邹市明] by Japanese fighter Sho Kimura (15-1-2, 8) [木村翔], who became the latest Japanese world champion.
Yesterday Kimura took part in a press conference, where he was awarded his physical belt.
The press conference saw Kimura talk about the cut over his right eye, which needed 9 stitches, and also stated that he had been invited to a special event in Shanghai on August 23rd, which he will be attending. Although a Japanese world champion it does seem like the Chinese have been won over by him, by fans and media both getting in touch with the new champion.
At the moment the future is unclear for Kimura, though he will be looking to make his first defense before the end of 2017. It could be that he faces Shiming in a rematch, former WBC champion Toshiyuki Igarashi (23-2-3 12) [五十嵐 俊幸] or a current world champion like WBA champion Kazuto Ioka (22-1, 13) [井岡一翔] or WBC champion Daigo Higa (13-0, 13) [比嘉 大吾].
