Earlier today saw the announcement that WBA #1 ranked Super Flyweight Sho Ishida (24-0, 13) [石田 匠] would be returning to the ring on September 13th, as part of the world title show at the EDION Arena Osaka, in what is said to be a stay busy fight for the unbeaten Japanese fighter.
Back in July Ishida was ordered to begin talks to face WBA champion Khalid Yafai (22-0, 14), with the bout being the first mandatory for Yafai and the first world title challenger for Ishida. It was assumed that a deal for the bout would have been made swiftly, but from sources in Japan the bout still hasn't been totally finalised, and rather than sit on the side Ishida will be having an interim bout to keep the rust off whilst the T's are crossed and the i's are dotted.
It's a frustrating bit of news for Ishida's fans who would have hoped that the bout with Yafai had been made already, especially after teasing comments had been leaked in the past, but it seems that there is some hold up in the contest somewhere.
The bout will be one of the leading support bouts for a card featuring a WBO Light Flyweight title fight between reigning champion Kosei Tanaka (9-0, 5) [田中恒成] and Thai contender Palangpol CP Freshmart (14-1, 8) [คู่เอก พลังพล ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท], along with an IBF Super Bantamweight world title fight between Yukinori Oguni's (19-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] and mandatory challenger Ryosuke Iwasa (23-2, 15) [岩佐 亮佑].
