Earlier today we were informed by our good friends over at http://www.aus-boxing.com that OPBF Super Middleweight champion Shintaro Matsumoto (13-4, 9) [松本 晋太郎] would be returning to the ring to defend his title on October 17th against Australian prospect Jayde Michell (9-1, 4).
The bout will be Matsumoto's first defense of the title that he won, in a major upset, earlier this year against Yuzo Kiyota in what was their third meeting. Prior to that win Matsumoto had come up short in 3 earlier title bouts, two of which came for the OPBF title against Kiyota, and he had, in all honesty, scored no notable wins prior to defeating Kiyota in April. The win however was a major one and may well build Matsumoto's confidence coming in to his first defense.
The once beaten Mitchell has won titles in Australia, including the "interim" PABA and the IBO Asia Pacific titles but this will be his first bout outside of his homeland, in fact it's his first outside of Victoria. Although a novice he has shown some real promise and some are expecting him to go a long way, this is however a major test for the promising fighter.
At the moment little about the card has been confirmed though it's expected the bout will be held at the Korakuen Hall and an undercard will be announced in the coming days.
