Suriyan is the #1 ranked WBC challenger at Bantamweight and a former WBC Super Flyweight world champion. Although he hasn't, yet, been told that he is the mandatory challenger it seems that Yamanaka wants only the top challenger this time around having hadrelatively easy defences against Jose Nieves and Stephane Jamoye in recent bouts.
Although the bout hasn't yet been formerly agreed we are expecting talks to progress quickly with Suriyan likely easier to make a deal with than some of the other leading contenders, such as Julio Ceja (27-1, 25) who has also shown interest in fighting Yamanaka.
Yamanaka is currently in a training camp with Teiken gym mates Takashi Miura and Takahiro Ao. The camp has apparently gone very well so far with all 3 men enjoying the weather in Chiba and pushing each other hard. It's expected that when they return to Tokyo deals will be finalised with all 3 men getting opponents for is expected to be a date in late October or early November.
