Earlier today fans in Japan had two world title bouts announced for a show on September 16th at the EDION Arena, Osaka. One of those was the much rumoured WBC Super Bantamweight title bout between Japanese icon Hozumi Hasegawa (35-5, 15) [長谷川 穂積] and reigning WBC champion Hugo Ruiz (36-3, 32). The other was arguably an even more compelling match up as it was announced that WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka (25-0-2, 17) [山中慎介] was to have a much demanded rematch with Anselmo Moreno (36-4-1, 12).
The two men faced off last September with Yamanaka taking a controversial split decision win over the tricky Panamanian. Since both men have scored a single win with Yamanaka needing to get off the canvas twice to beat Liborio Solis, to score defense #10, and Moreno beating Suriyan Sor Rungvisai to become the mandatory to Yamanaka.
Prior to this bout being announced their had been talk of Yamanaka trying to secure a unificaion bout but it appears scheduling issues have resulted in this really interesting rematch instead, and the winner will be regarded by many as the #1 in the division. As for the loser the question will be whether they remain at 118lbs, move to 122lbs, something Yamanaka has mentioned in the past, or even consider retirement with both already in their 30's.
For fans interest in watching both this rematch and the Hasegawa Vs Ruiz bout, they will be shown on NTV in Japan, though it's unclear if it will be live or shown on a slight tape delay.
