Earlier today our good friend Julius Julianus informed us, over twitter, that a deal had been reached for WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka (26-0-2, 18) [山中慎介] to defend his title, for the 11th time, on December 3rd against Mexican Jose Cayetano (20-4, 9), who is currently ranked #9 by the WBC at Super Bantamweight.
The timing, among other things, strikes us as peculiar with Yamanaka said to have been targeting a ring return in early 2017 and is especially curious with Teiken already having a show set for the same date at the Korakuen Hall. However we have been told that the bout has come from the Cayetano's team.
If the bout is made we'd expect an announcement from Teiken to be made in the very near future with the date now now less than 5 weeks away, and Yamanaka has only just returned to training the last week or so giving him a very short camp for such a bout.
Since this article was originally published Zanfer have confirmed they are trying to make the bout, but that they were targeting an early 2017 date, which appears to make more sense than the December 3rd date mentioned above. One would assume that it could come on a double header in either Tokyo or Osaka, if Yamanaka can't arrange a much anticipated world title unification bout for early next year.
