On July 20th we'll see Japan's charismatic Shingo Wake (20-4-2, 12) [和氣 慎吾] battle against Dominican power puncher Jonathan Guzman (21-0-0-1, 21) for the IBF Super Bantamweight title in a bout that could make or break the careers of both men.
Today ahead of that bout, Wake went through a public spar with several Filipino training partners as he looked to prove his fitness and ability.
The talented Japanese fighter shared the ring with two Filipino fighters, Jonas Sultan (11-3, 7) and Jeo Santisima (10-2, 9), and worked on showing some of the skills he'll need to use against Guzman, who is regarded as a genuine danger man.
As well as the public sparring Wake and his team spoke about Guzman, admitting that the Dominican was "scary" but that the game plan would depend on getting off first and using the jab as a major weapon, something that we have seen from Wake in the past.
