Earlier today we were informed that former Japanese amateur star Satoshi Shimizu [清水 聡] had officially stated his intention to turn professional, as he spoke with the head of the Japanese Boxing Federation, the people in charge of amateur boxing in Japan. It's not clear when he will make his debut, but all the reports are suggesting that he'll sign professional papers imminently and has a meeting with Hideyuki Ohashi in the coming days, ahead of joining Ohashi Gym.
The story has taken weeks to really develop to this point but it seems clear that it will snowball and that we will see developments speed up now that Shimizu has spoke to the JBF about his intention to turn professional.
Interestingly there is rumours that Shimizu is only looking at having a professional career that may last just a few years so his intent must be to be fast tracked to the top, something Ohashi would look to do, and may well have him debut in September on a much spoken about card set to take place in Tokyo on Fuji TV.
