Earlier today we reported that Japanese Featherweight champion Satoshi Hosono (25-2-1, 19) would no longer be fighting #1 challenger Rikiya Fukuhara (29-7-1, 21), on June 23rd at "Phoenix Battle 49". At the time we knew Hideyuki Ohashi was trying to line up a new challenger for Hosono's title though we didn't know what to expect.
Just a few hours after the news broke that Fukuhara had injured himself in training Ohashi managed to name a new opponent, the unbeaten Gosuke Seki (15-0-2, 3).
Seki is a former Rookie of the year and is currently ranked #7 by the JBC. From what we understand Seki, as his record indicates, isn't much of a puncher though he has a fantastic work rate and refuses to just accept a loss. Saying that however he has never shared the ring with someone as good, as strong or as powerful as Hosono who will have to be favoured going in to this bout.
With less than 5 weeks to the show this is a great replacement opponent. We don't think Seki will have the tools to beat Hosono but this is far from a poor bout and in fact it's a very good contest considering the short notice that Ohasi had to find a suitable foe.
