Just days after the official announcement of a Japanese Featherweight title fight between national champion Satoshi Hosono (25-2-1, 19) and #1 challenger Rikiya Fukuhara (29-7-1, 21) we've been informed that the bout has been cancelled.
The bout, which was set to headline "Pheonix Battle 49" on June 23rd, has been called off after Fukuhara suffered a training injury.
From what we understand Ohashi Gym chairman Hideyuki Ohashi has said they will be looking for a new opponent for Hosono who is still likely to defend his title on the show. Whilst it's a shame that we won't be getting Hosono Vs Fukuhara II we are hoping that Hosono will still defend against a ranked opponent, even though the show is only a month away.
Whilst we're sad to report that the show's main event won't be what we expected we are happy to hear that other bouts from the show have been set.
From what we understand two new bouts confirmed for the show will see OPBF Minimumweight champion Ryuji Hara (17-0, 10) fighting in a non-title bout with Indonesia's Faris Nenggo (8-4-3, 2) whilst the very promising Ryo Matsumoto (10-0, 8) will be fighting Benigno Nino (1-1-1).
The Hara and Matsumoto bouts are added to a show which already had a bout between Seiichi Okada (17-4, 10) and Hirotsugu Yamamoto (16-10-2, 2) scheduled.
