Every so often we get a fight on paper that we expect will be great when the fighters get in the ring. Sometimes those fights live up to their reputation, other times however they fair to give us the action we'd anticipated.
Today we got a bout from the second category as Kosuke Saka (14-3, 11) [坂晃典] blitzed veteran Takafumi Nakajima (25-9-1, 10) [中嶋孝文] in just 88 seconds.
We had had high hopes for the bout but Saka but those hopes to rest very quickly, dropping Nakajima after just 40 seconds with a monstrous right hand. Nakajima got back to his feet but was quickly forced against the ropes. It seemed like that was the end but the referee gave the veteran another chance, only giving him a standing count. It didn't matter though with Saka immediately jumping his man and forcing the finish.
The bout, which is on A-stream for those wanting to watch it, seemed to be a statement win from Saka, who has now scored 6 stoppages in a row, and it's clear that he wants a title fight in the near future. With this performance he has put the domestic scene on alert and we wouldn't be shocked to see him getting a shot in 2017.
For Nakajima the loss was painful but he may be able to bounce back from it, if he chooses to continue his career.
