Earlier today saw our Japanese sources report that Japanese youngster Ryuji Ikeda (12-3-2, 8) [池田 竜司] would be returning to the ring on October 22nd to fight in his first title fight, taking on talented Darragh Foley (12-2, 8).
The bout, which will take place in Sydney, Australia and will see Ikeda taking on his first serious test since joining the Takanori and Hatakeyama gym.
The 22 year old Japanese fighter first made his mark in 2013, when he won the All-Japan Rookie of the Year at Lightweight. He would go on to suffer his first stoppage defeat in 2014 before reeling off some stoppages. Last year was a bad year for Ikeda, who suffered his third loss and second draw, but he has rebuilt with a win on Thai soil, and looks to be heading in the right direction under the guidance of a new gym.
As for Foley he will be defending his WBA Oceania Light Welterweight title, whilst looking to record a 5th straight win and continue to move up the rankings towards a world title fight. From what we understand Foley will not be defending his OPBF title here, and will instead just be risking his WBA regional belt.
