The August 20th Ohahsi Promoted show "Phoenix Battle 55" appears to be under-going changes on an almost daily basis in recent times. We've known, for a while, that the main event would see Satoshi Hosono (27-2-1, 20) defending his Japanese Featherweight title against Tatsuya Otsubo (8-6-1, 3) and that the under-card would feature the promising Ryo Matsumoto (14-0, 12), former 2-weight world champion Akira Yaegashi (21-5, 11) and former Japanese and OPBF champion Ryuji Hara (19-1, 11).
In the build up to the card we've seen Yaegashi's opponent change regularly and it appears that it's changed once again.
Originally Yaegashi was scheduled to fight Indonesian visitor Heri Purnomo (2-5, 1) he himself was replaced by Iwan Key (9-12-3, 1) who was himself replaced by teenager Iwan Zoda (6-1, 5). It now seems that Zoda is also out of the fight in place of Said M Said (2-2, 1), yet another Indonesian fighter.
Said was originally announced as Hara's opponent for the show though it now seems that Hara is "off the card" in an official capacity and will instead be taking part in an exhibition bout on the same card. We're unsure on the reason for Hara to be fighting an exhibition on this card, though a real possibility could be that he now has a much more significant bout lined up for later in the year and has decided not to risk that bout by fighting an actual bout in August. Interestingly it's also not publicly known who the exhibition will be with, with some speculation suggesting it could be the ring return of Naoya Inoue, ahead of his first WBO Super Flyweight world title defense later in the year.
Whilst the full details on these changes haven't been made available it is an intriguing development just weeks away from the show.
